Domingo de 2ª Classe- Missa Própria
A liturgia de hoje fala-nos dos castigos terríveis com que Deus há de punir os que renegam a Cristo. Perecerão Todos. Nenhum deles entrará no reino dos Céus. Pelo contrário, os que no meio das contrariedades e dos enganos deste mundo permanecem fiéis, serão arrancados das mãos dos inimigos e entrarão com o senhor para a glória do reino.
É o que nos sugere as lições de Matinas, Elias era de Judá e habitava Galaad. Por três vezes saiu o profeta para anunciar aos Israelitas prevaricadores os castigos terríveis e iminentes com que a justiça divina os ameaçavam por seus crimes. A primeira por causa do escândalo de Acab e de Jezabel que tinha arrastado o povo a idolatria. A segunda devido aos 450 profetas de Baal, que ele fez condenar a morte. A terceira finalmente, ainda contra Jezabel. por tudo isso, Elias foi perseguido e teve que fugir para o monte Horeb, citado por Ocozias, flho de Jezabel a comparecer a sua presença, fez descer fogo do céus sobre os emissários do rei, morrendo todos queimados. Foi, pois como vemos, um paladino terrível dos direitos de Deus. Diz a sagrada escritura que foi elevado aos céus numa carruagem de fogo.

Epístola (ICor 10, 6-13)
Leitura da Epístola de São Paulo Apóstolo aos Coríntios.
Irmãos: Não cobicemos coisas más, como eles [os nossos pais, no deserto] as cobiçaram. Nem vos torneis idólatras, como alguns deles, conforme está escrito: O povo sentou-se para comer e para beber, e depois levantou-se para se divertir (Ex 32,6). Nem nos entreguemos à impureza como alguns deles se entregaram, e morreram num só dia vinte e três mil. Nem tentemos o Senhor, como alguns deles o tentaram, e pereceram mordidos pelas serpentes. Nem murmureis, como murmuraram alguns deles, e foram mortos pelo exterminador. Todas estas desgraças lhes aconteceram para nosso exemplo; foram escritas para advertência nossa, para nós que tocamos o final dos tempos. Portanto, quem pensa estar de pé veja que não caia. Não vos sobreveio tentação alguma que ultrapassasse as forças humanas. Deus é fiel: não permitirá que sejais tentados além das vossas forças, mas com a tentação ele vos dará os meios de suportá-la e sairdes dela.
Evangelho (Lc 19, 41-47)
Continuação do Santo Evangelho de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo segundo São Lucas.Naquele Tempo: Aproximando-se Jesus de Jerusalém, ao ver a cidade, chorou sobre ela dizendo: Se ao menos neste dia, que te é dado, tu conhecesses ainda o que te pode te trazer a paz! Mas agora isto está encoberto aos teus olhos. Porque virão para ti dias em que teus inimigos te cercarão de trincheiras, e te sitiarão, e te apertarão por terra a ti e teus filhos, que estão dentro de ti, e não deixarão em ti pedra sobre pedra; porque não conheceste o tempo da tua visita. E, tendo entrado no templo, começou a expulsar os que vendiam e compravam nele, dizendo-lhes: Está escrito: A minha casa é uma casa de oração; e vós fizeste dela um covil de ladrões. E todos os dias ensinava no templo.

Brethren, let us not covet evil things, as they also coveted: Neither become ye idolaters, as some of them: as it is written “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed fornication, and there fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them tempted, and perished by the serpents. Neither do you murmur, as some of them murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer. Now all these things happened to them in figure, and they are written for our correction, upon whom the ends of the world are to come. Wherefore he that thinketh himself to stand, let him take heed lest he fall. Let no temptation take hold on you, but such as is human: and God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that which you are able but will make also with temptation issue, that you may be able to bear it.
Gospel (Luke 19: 41-47)

At that time, when Jesus drew near to Jerusalem, seeing the city, He wept over it, saying: If thou also hadst known, and that in this thy day, the things that are to thy peace: but now they are hidden from thy eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, and thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee on every side and beat thee flat to the ground, and thy children who are in thee; and they shall not leave in thee a stone upon a stone, because thou hast not known the time of thy visitation.” And entering into the temple, He began to cast out them that sold therein, and them, that bought, saying to them: “It is written, ‘My house is the house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves’.” And He was teaching daily in the temple.
