Epístola (I Jo 4, 8-21)
Leitura da Epístola de São João Apóstolo.
Caríssimos: Aquele que não ama não conhece a Deus, porque Deus é amor. Nisto se manifestou o amor de Deus para conosco: em nos ter enviado ao mundo o seu Filho único, para que vivamos por ele. Nisto consiste o amor: não em termos nós amado a Deus, mas em ter-nos ele amado, e enviado o seu Filho para expiar os nossos pecados. Caríssimos, se Deus assim nos amou, também nós nos devemos amar uns aos outros. Ninguém jamais viu a Deus. Se nos amarmos mutuamente, Deus permanece em nós e o seu amor em nós é perfeito. Nisto é que conhecemos que estamos nele e ele em nós, por ele nos ter dado o seu Espírito. E nós vimos e testemunhamos que o Pai enviou seu Filho como Salvador do mundo. Todo aquele que proclama que Jesus é o Filho de Deus, Deus permanece nele e ele em Deus. Nós conhecemos e cremos no amor que Deus tem para conosco. Deus é amor, e quem permanece no amor permanece em Deus e Deus nele. Nisto é perfeito em nós o amor: que tenhamos confiança no dia do julgamento, pois, como ele é, assim também nós o somos neste mundo. No amor não há temor. Antes, o perfeito amor lança fora o temor, porque o temor envolve castigo, e quem teme não é perfeito no amor. Mas amamos, porque Deus nos amou primeiro. Se alguém disser: Amo a Deus, mas odeia seu irmão, é mentiroso. Porque aquele que não ama seu irmão, a quem vê, é incapaz de amar a Deus, a quem não vê. Temos de Deus este mandamento: o que amar a Deus, ame também a seu irmão.
Evangelho (Lc 6, 36-42)

Sede misericordiosos, como também vosso Pai é misericordioso. Não julgueis, e não sereis julgados; não condeneis, e não sereis condenados; perdoai, e sereis perdoados; dai, e dar-se-vos-á. Colocar-vos-ão no regaço medida boa, cheia, recalcada e transbordante, porque, com a mesma medida com que medirdes, sereis medidos vós também. Propôs-lhes também esta comparação: Pode acaso um cego guiar outro cego? Não cairão ambos na cova? O discípulo não é superior ao mestre; mas todo discípulo perfeito será como o seu mestre. Por que vês tu o argueiro no olho de teu irmão e não reparas na trave que está no teu olho? Ou como podes dizer a teu irmão: Deixa-me, irmão, tirar de teu olho o argueiro, quando tu não vês a trave no teu olho? Hipócrita, tira primeiro a trave do teu olho e depois enxergarás para tirar o argueiro do olho de teu irmão.

Epistle (I John 4: 8-21)
Lesson from the Epistle of blessed John the Apostle.
Dearly beloved, God is charity. By this hath the charity of God appeared toward us, because God hath sent His only-begotten Son into the world, that we may live by Him. In this is charity; not as though we had loved God, but because He hath first loved us, and sent His Son to be a propitiation for our sins. My dearest, if God hath so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us and His charity is perfected in us. In this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us; because He hath given us of His spirit. And we have seen and do testify, that the Father hath sent His Son to be the Saviour of the World. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in Him, and he in God. And we have known, and have believed the charity which God hath to us. God is charity: and he that abideth in charity abideth in God, and God in him. In this is the charity of God perfected with us, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment: because: as He is, we also are in the world. Fear is not in charity, but perfect charity casteth out fear: because fear hath Pain: and he that feareth is not perfected in charity. Let us therefore love God, because God first hath loved us If any man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar. For he that loveth not his brother whom he seeth, how can he love God, Whom he seeth not? And this commandment we have from God, that he who loveth God love also his neighbor.
Gospel (Luke 6: 36-42)
The continuation of the holy Gospel according to John.
At that time Jesus said to His disciples: “Be ye merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shalt not be condemned. Forgive, and you shall be forgiven. Give, and it shall be given unto you: good measure, and pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall they give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you mete withal, it shall be measured to you again. And He spoke also to them a similtude: can the blind lead the blind? do they not both fall into the ditch? The disciple is not above his master: but every one shall be perfect if he be as his master. and why seest thou the mote in thy brothers eye: but the beam that is in thine own eye thou considerest not? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye: and then thou shalt see clearly to pull out the mote from thy brothers eye.”
