SEGUNDA-FEIRA DA TERCEIRA SEMANA DA QUARESMA

A estação de hoje reunia-se na antiga Igreja paroquial de São Marcos, edificada no século VI pelo Papa São Marcos Em honra de seu patrono.
A Epístola e o Evangelho fala-nos do do general assírio Naaman que foi curado da lepra depois de se banhar nas águas do Jordão; o próprio Jesus entrou também nas águas desse rio para receber o santo batismo de João e assim anunciar o seu, que Ele havia de instituir mais perfeito. Naaman é pois neste passo da Escritura, representante dos Gentios que a Igreja curou da lepra do pecado com as águas do batismo. Nestes dias, já próximos da Páscoa, a Igreja já fala com insistência do Batismo e o fá-lo particularmente em respeito dos catecúmenos que terão nesta semana o grande escrutínio. Renovemo-nos pela purificação do nosso interior no banho salutar da penitência, que nos lavará da lepra do pecado.

Oração (Coleta da Missa): Nós Vos rogamos, Senhor, derramai benigno em nossos corações a vossa graça, para que guardemos nossos sentidos de todo excesso perigoso, como nos abstemos dos alimentos corporais. Por Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. Amém.

Oração (Super Populum): Venha, Senhor, sobre nós a vossa misericórdia, afim de que, por vossa proteção, mereçamos ser livres dos perigos que nos ameaçam por nossos pecados e sermos salvos por vossa mão libertadora. Por Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. Amém.

Epístola (II Reis 5, 1-15)

Leitura do Segundo Livro dos Reis.

Naqueles dias: Naamã, general do exército do rei da Síria, gozava de grande prestígio diante de seu amo, e era muito considerado, porque, por meio dele, o Senhor salvou a Síria; era um homem valente, mas leproso. Ora, tendo os sírios feito uma incursão no território de Israel, levaram consigo uma jovem, a qual ficou a serviço da mulher de Naamã. Ela disse à sua senhora: Ah, se meu amo fosse ter com o profeta que reside em Samaria, ele o curaria da lepra! Ouvindo isso, Naamã foi e contou ao seu soberano o que dissera a jovem israelita. O rei da Síria respondeu-lhe: Vai, que eu enviarei uma carta ao rei de Israel. Naamã partiu com dez talentos de prata, seis mil siclos de ouro e dez vestes de festa. Levou ao rei de Israel uma carta concebida nestes termos: Ao receberes esta carta, saberás que te mando Naamã, meu servo, para que o cures da lepra. Tendo lido a missiva, o rei de Israel rasgou as vestes e exclamou: Sou eu porventura um deus, que possa dar a morte ou a vida, para que esse me mande dizer que cure um homem da lepra? Vede bem que ele anda buscando pretextos contra mim. Quando Eliseu, o homem de Deus, soube que o rei tinha rasgado as vestes, mandou-lhe dizer: Por que rasgaste as tuas vestes? Que ele venha a mim, e saberá que há um profeta em Israel. Naamã veio com seu carro e seus cavalos e parou à porta de Eliseu. Este mandou-lhe dizer por um mensageiro: Vai, lava-te sete vezes no Jordão e tua carne ficará limpa. Naamã se foi, despeitado, dizendo: Eu pensava que ele viria em pessoa, e, diante de mim, invocaria o Senhor, seu Deus, poria a mão no lugar infetado e me curaria da lepra. Porventura os rios de Damasco, o Abana e o Farfar, não são melhores que todas as águas de Israel? Não me poderia eu lavar neles e ficar limpo? E, voltando-se, retirou-se encolerizado. Mas seus servos, aproximando-se dele, disseram-lhe: Meu pai, mesmo que o profeta te tivesse ordenado algo difícil, não o deverias fazer? Quanto mais agora que ele te disse: Lava-te e serás curado. Naamã desceu ao Jordão e banhou-se ali sete vezes, como lhe ordenara o homem de Deus, e sua carne tornou-se tenra como a de uma criança. Voltando então para o homem de Deus, com toda a sua comitiva, entrou, apresentou-se diante dele e disse: Reconheço que não há outro Deus em toda a terra, senão o de Israel. Aceita este presente do teu servo.

Evangelho (Lc 4, 23-30)

Sequência do Santo Evangelho segundo São Lucas : Naquele tempo, disse Jesus aos seus discípulos: Sem dúvida me citareis este provérbio: Médico, cura-te a ti mesmo; todas as maravilhas que fizeste em Cafarnaum, segundo ouvimos dizer, faze-o também aqui na tua pátria. E acrescentou: Em verdade vos digo: nenhum profeta é bem aceito na sua pátria. Em verdade vos digo: muitas viúvas havia em Israel, no tempo de Elias, quando se fechou o céu por três anos e meio e houve grande fome por toda a terra; mas a nenhuma delas foi mandado Elias, senão a uma viúva em Sarepta, na Sidônia. Igualmente havia muitos leprosos em Israel, no tempo do profeta Eliseu; mas nenhum deles foi limpo, senão o sírio Naamã.  A estas palavras, encheram-se todos de cólera na sinagoga. Levantaram-se e lançaram-no fora da cidade; e conduziram-no até o alto do monte sobre o qual estava construída a sua cidade, e queriam precipitá-lo dali abaixo. Ele, porém, passou por entre eles e retirou-se.

Lesson (II Kings 5: 1-15)

Lesson from the Book of Kings.

In those days Naaman, general of the army, of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable: for by him the Lord gave deliverance to Syria: and he was a valiant man, and rich, but a leper. Now there had gone out robbers from Syria, and had led away captive out of the land of Israel, a little maid, and she waited upon Naaman’s wife. And she said to her mistress: I wish my master had been with the prophet that is in Samaria: he would certainly have healed him of the leprosy which he hath. Then Naaman went in to his lord, and told him, saying: Thus and thus said the girl from the land of Israel. And the king of Syria said to him: Go; and I will send a letter to the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment; And brought the letter to the king of Israel, in these words: When thou shalt receive this letter, know that I have sent to thee Naaman, my servant, that thou mayst heal him of his leprosy. And when the king of Israel had read the letter, he rent his garments, and said: Am I God, to be able to kill and give life, that this man hath sent to me to heal a man of his leprosy? mark, and see how he seeketh occasions against me. And when Eliseus, the man of God, had heard this, to wit, that the king of Israel had rent his garments, he sent to him, saying: Why hast thou rent thy garments? let him come to me, and let him know that there is a prophet in Israel. So Naaman came with his horses and chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Eliseus: And Eliseus sent a messenger to him, saying: Go, and wash seven times in the Jordan, and thy flesh shall recover health, and thou shalt be clean. Naaman was angry, and went away, saying: I thought he would have come out to me, and standing, would have invoked the name of the Lord his God, and touched with his hand the place of the leprosy, and healed me. Are not the Abana, and the Pharphar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel, that I may wash in them, and be made clean? So as he turned, and was going away with indignation, His servants came to him, and said to him: Father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, surely thou shouldst have done it: how much rather what he now hath said to thee: Wash, and thou shalt be clean? Then he went down, and washed in the Jordan seven times, according to the word of the man of God; and his flesh was restored, like the flesh of a little child: and he was made clean. And returning to the man of God, with all his train, he came, and stood before him, and said: In truth, I know there is no other God, in all the earth, but only in Israel: I beseech thee, therefore, take a blessing of thy servant.

Gospel (Luke 4: 23-30)

The continuation of the holy Gospel according to Luke. 

At that time Jesus said to the pharisees: “Doubtless you will say to Me this similitude: Physician, heal thyself. As great things as we have heard done in Capharnaum, do also here in thy own country.” And he said: “Amen I say to you that no prophet is accepted in his own country. In truth I say to You, there were many widows in the days of Elias in Israel, when heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there was a great famine throughout all the earth. And to none of them was Elias sent, but to Sarepta of Sidon, to a widow woman. And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet: and none of them was cleansed but Naaman the Syrian.” And all they in the synagogue, hearing these things, were filled with anger. And they rose up and thrust him out of the city: and they brought him to the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast Him down headlong. But He passing through the midst of them, went His way.
