Epístola (I Cor 13, 1-13)
Leitura da Epístola de São Paulo Apóstolo aos Coríntios.
Irmãos, Ainda que eu falasse as línguas dos homens e dos anjos, se não tiver caridade, sou como o bronze que soa, ou como o címbalo que retine. Mesmo que eu tivesse o dom da profecia, e conhecesse todos os mistérios e toda a ciência; mesmo que tivesse toda a fé, a ponto de transportar montanhas, se não tiver caridade, não sou nada. Ainda que distribuísse todos os meus bens em sustento dos pobres, e ainda que entregasse o meu corpo para ser queimado, se não tiver caridade, de nada valeria! A caridade é paciente, a caridade é bondosa. Não tem inveja. A caridade não é orgulhosa. Não é arrogante. Nem escandalosa. Não busca os seus próprios interesses, não se irrita, não guarda rancor. Não se alegra com a injustiça, mas se rejubila com a verdade. Tudo desculpa, tudo crê, tudo espera, tudo suporta. A caridade jamais acabará. As profecias desaparecerão, o dom das línguas cessará, o dom da ciência findará. A nossa ciência é parcial, a nossa profecia é imperfeita. Quando chegar o que é perfeito, o imperfeito desaparecerá. Quando eu era criança, falava como criança, pensava como criança, raciocinava como criança. Desde que me tornei homem, eliminei as coisas de criança. Hoje vemos como por um espelho, confusamente; mas então veremos face a face. Hoje conheço em parte; mas então conhecerei totalmente, como eu sou conhecido. Por ora subsistem a fé, a esperança e a caridade – as três. Porém, a maior delas é a caridade.

Naquele Tempo, Jesus tomou à parte os Doze e disse-lhes: Eis que subimos a Jerusalém. Tudo o que foi escrito pelos profetas a respeito do Filho do Homem será cumprido. Ele será entregue aos pagãos. Hão de escarnecer dele, ultrajá-lo, desprezá-lo; bater-lhe-ão com varas e o farão morrer; e ao terceiro dia ressurgirá. Mas eles nada disto compreendiam, e estas palavras eram-lhes um enigma cujo sentido não podiam entender. Ao aproximar-se Jesus de Jericó, estava um cego sentado à beira do caminho, pedindo esmolas. Ouvindo o ruído da multidão que passava, perguntou o que havia. Responderam-lhe: É Jesus de Nazaré, que passa. Ele então exclamou: Jesus, filho de Davi, tem piedade de mim! Os que vinham na frente repreendiam-no rudemente para que se calasse. Mas ele gritava ainda mais forte: Filho de Davi, tem piedade de mim! Jesus parou e mandou que lho trouxessem. Chegando ele perto, perguntou-lhe: Que queres que te faça? Respondeu ele: Senhor, que eu veja. Jesus lhe disse: Vê! Tua fé te salvou. E imediatamente ficou vendo e seguia a Jesus, glorificando a Deus. Presenciando isto, todo o povo deu glória a Deus.

Epistle (II Corinthians 13: 1-13)
Lesson from the Epistle of Blessed Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians.
Brethren: If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. And if I should have prophecy, and should know all mysteries, and all knowledge; and if I should have all faith so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And if I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing; Charity envieth not, dealeth not perversely, is not puffed up, is not ambitious, seeketh not her own, is not provoked to anger, thinketh no evil, rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth with the truth: beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never falleth away; whether prophecies shall be away; whether prophecies shall be made void, or tongues shall cease, or knowledge shall pass be destroyed. For we now in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child. I understood as a child I thought as a child. But when I became a man, I put away the things of a child. We see now through a glass in a dark manner; but then face to face. Now I know in part; but then I shall know even as I am known. And now there remain faith, hope, and charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
Gospel (Luke 18: 31-43)

At that time Jesus took unto Him the twelve and said to them :’ Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things shall by accomplished which were written by the Prophets concerning the Son of Man. For He shall be delivered to the Gentiles, and shall be mocked and scourged and spit upon: and after they have scourged Him, they will put Him to death, and the third day He shall rise again.’ And they understood none of these things, and the word was hid from them, and they understood not the things that were said. Now it came to pass, when He drew nigh to Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the wayside begging. And when he heard the multitude passing by, he asked what this meant. And they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. And he cried out, saying : ‘Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.’ And they that went before rebuked him, that he cried out much more : ‘Son of David, have mercy on me.’ And Jesus standing, commanded him to brought unto him. And when he was come near, He asked him, saying : ‘What wilt thou that I do to thee?’ But he said: ‘Lord, that I may see.’ And Jesus said to him: ‘Receive thy sight, thy faith hath made thee whole.’ And immediately he saw and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
