Missa “Protexisti”
Santo Estanislau nasceu em 1030, em Szczepanowa, diocese de Cracóvia, Polónia. De família pobre, estudou com os beneditinos de Cracóvia e depois em Liége, Bélgica. De regresso à pátria, exerceu o ministério sacerdotal com zelo e inteligência, fazendo várias reformas pastorais.
Aos 42 anos, foi nomeado bispo de Cracóvia por Alexandre II. A sua nomeação agradou a todos, até mesmo ao rei Boleslau (1058-1079) que a princípio apoiou as suas iniciativas pastorais. Esta harmonia haveria de se romper, em consequência do desmando e corrupção dos costumes da corte. O próprio rei tinha conduta leviana, reprovável e escandalosa. Santo Estanislau denunciou-o publicamente e lançou sobre ele a excomunhão. Foi morto, então, quando celebrava a Missa na igreja de São Miguel e, segundo consta, pelas próprias mãos de Boleslau. Era o dia 8 de Maio de 1097.
Santo Estanislau não somente é venerado na Polónia, mas também na Europa e nas Américas.

O justo se levantará em face dos que o perseguiram e zombaram dos seus males aqui embaixo. Diante de sua vista serão presos de grande temor e tomados de assombro ao vê-lo salvo contra sua expectativa; tocados de arrependimento, dirão entre si, e, gemendo na angústia de sua alma, dirão: Ei-lo, aquele de quem outrora escarnecemos, e a quem loucamente cobrimos de insultos! Considerávamos sua vida como uma loucura, e sua morte como uma vergonha. Como, pois, é ele do número dos filhos de Deus, e como está seu lugar entre os santos?

Naquele tempo, disse Jesus a Seus discípulos: Eu sou a videira verdadeira, e meu Pai é o agricultor. Todo ramo que não der fruto em mim, ele o cortará; e podará todo o que der fruto, para que produza mais fruto. Vós já estais puros pela palavra que vos tenho anunciado. Permanecei em mim e eu permanecerei em vós. O ramo não pode dar fruto por si mesmo, se não permanecer na videira. Assim também vós: não podeis tampouco dar fruto, se não permanecerdes em mim. Eu sou a videira; vós, os ramos. Quem permanecer em mim e eu nele, esse dá muito fruto; porque sem mim nada podeis fazer. Se alguém não permanecer em mim será lançado fora, como o ramo. Ele secará e hão de ajuntá-lo e lançá-lo ao fogo, e queimar-se-á. Se permanecerdes em mim, e as minhas palavras permanecerem em vós, pedireis tudo o que quiserdes e vos será feito.

Lesson from the Book of the Wisdom.
The just will stand with great steadfastness against those who have oppressed them and have taken away their labors. Seeing this, they will be troubled with terrible fear, and they will be amazed at the suddenness of unexpected salvation. Driven toward regret, and through the anguish of their groaning spirit, they will say within themselves: “These are the ones whom we held for some time in derision and in mocking reproach. We foolish considered their life to be madness, and their end to be without honor. How is it that they are counted among the sons of God, and their place is among the holy?

At that time, The Lord appointed also other seventy-two; and He sent them two and two before His face into every city and place whither He Himself was to come. And He said to them, “The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He send laborers into His harvest. Go, behold I send you as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes; and salute no man by the way. Into whatsoever house you enter, first say, Peace be to this house: and if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him: but if not, it shall return to you. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they have: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Remove not from house to house. And into what city soever you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you; and heal the sick that are therein; and say to them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.”
