SÁBADO DAS TÊMPORAS DA QUARESMA

A estação de Sábado das Têmporas da Quaresma reunia-se sempre na Basílica edificada por Constantino, e reconstruída pelos Sumo Pontífices dos séculos XVI e XVII, na colina do Vaticano onde São Pedro morreu e repousa. Era nesta Basílica que se faziam as ordenações, precedidas, durante a noite, de doze leituras, das quais nos resta ainda um vestígio na missa de hoje.

Como os Apóstolos que foram escolhidos para assistir no Tabor a Transfiguração de Jesus, os novos presbíteros subirão os degraus do altar para se porem em comunhão com a divindade. São eles agora que nos exortam a escultar e praticar a palavra do Filho de Deus com obras de penitência e caridade. Se nos abstivermos das obras do mal, o nosso corpo e nossa alma conserva-se-á sem mancha para o dia da Páscoa eterna, em que o Senhor nos fará participar a todos da glória da sua transfiguração. Peçamos a Deus que nos fortifique com a sua benção, para que durante esta Quaresma não nos apartemos do cumprimento de sua santa vontade.

LEITURAS/LESSONS

I Leitura (Dt 26, 12-19)

Leitura do Livro do Deuteronômio.  

Naqueles dias, falou Moisés ao povo nestes termos: Quando tiveres acabado dê separar o dízimo de todos os teus produtos, no terceiro ano, que é o ano do dízimo, e o tiveres distribuído ao levita, ao estrangeiro, ao órfão e à viúva, para que tenham em tua cidade do que comer com fartura, dirás em presença do Senhor, teu Deus: tirei de minha casa o que era consagrado para dá-lo ao levita, ao estrangeiro, ao órfão e à viúva, como me ordenasses: não transgredi nem omiti nenhum dos vossos mandamentos. Não comi dessas coisas durante o meu luto, nem delas separei coisa alguma em estado de impureza, e delas nada dei a um morto. Obedeci à voz do Senhor, meu Deus, e conformei-me inteiramente às vossas ordens. Olhai de vossa santa morada, do alto dos céus, e abençoar vosso povo de Israel, e a terra que nos destes, como jurasses a nossos pais, terra que mana leite e mel. O Senhor, teu Deus, ordena-te hoje que guardes estas leis e estes preceitos. Observa-os cuidadosamente e pratica-os de todo o teu coração e de toda a tua alma. Hoje, fizeste o Senhor, teu Deus, prometer que ele seria teu Deus, e que andarias nos seus caminhos, observando suas leis, seus mandamentos e seus preceitos, e obedecendo-lhe fielmente. E o Senhor fez-te prometer neste dia, também de tua parte, que serias um povo que lhe pertenceria de maneira exclusiva, como te disse, e que observarias todos os seus mandamentos, para que ele te eleve em glória, renome e esplendor, acima de todas as nações que criou, e sejas, assim, um povo consagrado ao Senhor, teu Deus, como te disse.

II Leitura (Dt 11, 22-25)

Naqueles dias, disse Moisés aos filhos de Israel: Se observardes fielmente todos os mandamentos que vos prescrevo, amando o Senhor, vosso Deus, andando em seus caminhos e apegando-vos a ele, então o Senhor expulsará de diante de vós todas essas nações, e despojareis povos mais numerosos e mais fortes do que vós. Todo lugar em que pisar a planta de vossos pés vos pertencerá. Vossa fronteiras irão desde o deserto até o Líbano e desde o rio Eufrates até o mar do ocidente. Ninguém vos poderá resistir: o Senhor, vosso Deus, semeará o pânico e o terror de vós em todas as terras onde pisardes, como vos prometeu.

III Leitura(II Mac 1, 23-26 e 27)

Leitura do Livro dos Macabeus.

Naqueles dias: Enquanto se consumiu o sacrifício, os sacerdotes puseram-se a rezar, e todos rezavam com eles; Jônatas entoava, e os outros, como Neemias, juntavam sua voz à dele. Eis a oração: Senhor, Senhor, Deus, criador de todas as coisas, terrível e forte, justo e misericordioso, que sois o rei único e bom, o único generoso, o único justo, todo-poderoso e eterno, vós que livrastes Israel de todo o mal, que fizestes de nossos pais vossos escolhidos e os santificastes, aceitai este sacrifício, oferecido por todo o vosso povo de Israel, guardai vossa parte de eleição e santificai-a. Congregai nossos irmãos dispersos, devolvei a liberdade aos que são escravos entre os pagãos, deitai vosso olhar sobre os que são desprezados e abominados, e que as nações saibam que sois nosso Deus.

IV Leitura (Eclo 36, 1-10)

Leitura do livro da Sabedoria.

Tem piedade de nós, ó Deus de toda as coisas, e volta para nós os teus olhos, e mostra-nos a luz das tuas misericórdias; e espalha o teu temor sobre as nações, que, que não buscaram, para que elas reconheçam que não há outro Deus senão Tu, e publiquem as tuas maravilhas. Levanta a tua mão contra as nações estranhas, para que reconheçam o teu poder. Porque, assim como diante de seus olhos mostrastes em nós a tua santidade, assim também a nossa vista mostra nelas a tua grandeza, para que reconheçam, como também nós reconhecemos, que fora de Ti de, Senhor, não há outro Deus. Renova os teus prodígios e fazes novas maravilhas. Glorifica a tua mão e o teu braço direito. Excita o teu furor, e derrama a tua ira. Destrói o teu adversário, e afinge o inimigo. Apressa o tempo, lembra-te do fim, para que publiquem as tuas maravilhas, Senhor que sois o nosso Deus.

V Leitura (Dn 3, 47-51)

Leitura do profeta Daniel.

Eis o que diz o Senhor Deus: Então, as chamas, subindo a quarenta e nove côvados acima da fornalha, ultrapassaram a grade e queimaram os caldeus que se achavam perto. Mas o anjo do Senhor havia descido com Azarias e seus companheiros à fornalha e afastava o fogo. Fez do centro da fogueira como um lugar onde soprasse uma brisa matinal: o fogo nem mesmo os tocava, nem lhes fazia mal algum, nem lhes causava a menor dor. Então os três jovens elevaram suas vozes em uníssono para louvar, glorificar e bendizer a Deus dentro da fornalha, neste cântico:

Epístola (I Tes 5, 14-23)

Leitura da Epístola de São Paulo Apóstolo aos Tessalonicenses

Irmãos, Pedimo-vos, que corrijais os desordeiros, encorajai os tímidos, amparai os fracos e tende paciência para com todos. Vede que ninguém pague a outro mal por mal. Antes, procurai sempre praticar o bem entre vós e para com todos. Vivei sempre contentes. Orai sem cessar. Em todas as circunstâncias, dai graças, porque esta é a vosso respeito a vontade de Deus em Jesus Cristo. Não extingais o Espírito. Não desprezeis as profecias. Examinai tudo: abraçai o que é bom. Guardai-vos de toda a espécie de mal. O Deus da paz vos conceda santidade perfeita. Que todo o vosso ser, espírito, alma e corpo, seja conservado irrepreensível para a vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo!

Naquele tempo: Jesus tomou consigo Pedro, Tiago e João, seu irmão, e conduziu-os à parte a uma alta montanha. Lá se transfigurou na presença deles: seu rosto brilhou como o sol, suas vestes tornaram-se resplandecentes de brancura. E eis que apareceram Moisés e Elias conversando com ele. Pedro tomou então a palavra e disse-lhe: Senhor, é bom estarmos aqui. Se queres, farei aqui três tendas: uma para ti, uma para Moisés e outra para Elias. Falava ele ainda, quando veio uma nuvem luminosa e os envolveu. E daquela nuvem fez-se ouvir uma voz que dizia: Eis o meu Filho muito amado, em quem pus toda minha afeição; ouvi-o. Ouvindo esta voz, os discípulos caíram com a face por terra e tiveram medo. Mas Jesus aproximou-se deles e tocou-os, dizendo: Levantai-vos e não temais. Eles levantaram os olhos e não viram mais ninguém, senão unicamente Jesus. E, quando desciam, Jesus lhes fez esta proibição: Não conteis a ninguém o que vistes, até que o Filho do Homem ressuscite dos mortos.

II Lesson (Deut. 11: 22-25)

In those days, Moses said to the children of Israel, if you keep the commandments which I command you, and do them, to love the Lord your God, and walk in all His ways, cleaving unto Him; the Lord will destroy all these nations before your face, and you shall possess them, which are greater and stronger than you. Every place that your foot shall tread upon, shall be yours. From the desert, and from Libanus, from the great river Euphrates unto the western sea shall be your borders. None shall stand against you: The Lord your God shall lay the dread and fear of you upon all the land that you shall tread upon, as He hath spoken to you: the Lord your God.

III Lesson(II Macc. 1: 23-26 and 27)

Lesson from the Book of Machabees.

In those days all the priests made prayer, while the sacrifice was consuming, Jonathan beginning, and the rest answering. And the prayer of Nehemias was after this manner: O Lord God, creator of all things, dreadful and strong, just and merciful, Who alone art the good King, Who alone art gracious, Who alone art just, and almighty, and eternal, Who deliverest Israel from all evil, Who didst choose the fathers, and didst sanctify them; receive the sacrifice for all Thy people Israel, and preserve Thy own portion, and sanctify it; that the gentiles may know that Thou art our God.

IV Lesson (Ecclus. 36: 1-10)

Lesson from the Book of Wisdom.

Have mercy upon us, O God of all, and behold us, and show us the light of Thy mercies: and send Thy fear upon the nations, that have not sought after Thee; that they may know that there is no God beside Thee, and that they may show forth Thy wonders. Lift up Thy hand over the strange nations, that they may see Thy power. For as Thou hast been sanctified in us in their sight, so Thou shalt be magnified among them in our presence, that they may know Thee, as we also have known that there is no God beside Thee, O Lord. Renew Thy signs, and work new miracles. Glorify Thy hand, and Thy right arm. Raise up indignation, and pour out wrath. Take away the adversary, and crush the enemy. Hasten the time, and remember the end, that they may declare Thy wonderful works, O Lord our God.

V Lesson(Dan. 3: 47-51)

And as he was yet speaking, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them. And lo, a voice out of the cloud, saying: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: hear ye Him.” And the disciples, hearing, fell upon their face and were very much afraid.
