Leitura da Epístola de São Paulo Apóstolo aos Efésios (Ef 4, 7-13)
Irmãos: A cada um de nós foi dada a graça, segundo a medida do dom de Cristo,pelo que diz: Quando subiu ao alto, levou muitos cativos, cumulou de dons os homens (Sl 67,19). Ora, que quer dizer ele subiu, senão que antes havia descido a esta terra? Aquele que desceu é também o que subiu acima de todos os céus, para encher todas as coisas. A uns ele constituiu apóstolos; a outros, profetas; a outros, evangelistas, pastores, doutores, para o aperfeiçoamento dos cristãos, para o desempenho da tarefa que visa à construção do corpo de Cristo, até que todos tenhamos chegado à unidade da fé e do conhecimento do Filho de Deus, até atingirmos o estado de homem feito, a estatura da maturidade de Cristo.

Lesson from the Epistle of blessed Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians. (Eph 4, 7-13)
Brethren, to every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the giving of Christ. Wherefore He saith, Ascending on high, He led captivity captive; He gave gifts to men. Now, that He ascended, what is it, but because He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? He that descended is the same also that ascended above all the heavens, that He might fill all things. And He gave some apostles, and some prophets, and other some evangelists, and other some pastors and doctors, for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ; until we all meet into the unity of faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the age of the fulness of Christ.

Fratres: Unicuíque nostrum data est grátia secúndum mensúram donatiónis Christi. Propter quod licit: Ascéndens in altum, captívam duxit captivitátem: dedit dona homínibus. Quod autem ascéndit, quid est, nisi quia et descéndit primum in inferióres partes terra? Qui descéndit, ipse est qui et ascéndit super onmes cælos, ut impléret ómnia. Et ipse dedit quosdam quidem apóstolos, quosdam autem prophétas, álios vero evangelístas, álios autem pastóres, et doctóres ad consummatiónem sanctórum in opus ministérii, in ædificatiónem córporis Christi: donec occurrámus omnes in unitátem fidei, et agnitiónis Fílii Dei, in virum perféctum, in mensúram ætáis plenitúdinis Christi.

Naquele tempo, disse Jesus a seus discípulos: “O que vos mando é que vos ameis uns aos outros. Se o mundo vos odeia, sabei que me odiou a mim antes que a vós. Se fôsseis do mundo, o mundo vos amaria como sendo seus. Como, porém, não sois do mundo, mas do mundo vos escolhi, por isso o mundo vos odeia. Lembrai-vos da palavra que vos disse: O servo não é maior do que o seu senhor. Se me perseguiram, também vos hão de perseguir. Se guardaram a minha palavra, hão de guardar também a vossa. Mas vos farão tudo isso por causa do meu nome, porque não conhecem aquele que me enviou. Se eu não viesse e não lhes tivesse falado, não teriam pecado; mas agora não há desculpa para o seu pecado. Aquele que me odeia, odeia também a meu Pai. Se eu não tivesse feito entre eles obras, como nenhum outro fez, não teriam pecado; mas agora as viram e odiaram a mim e a meu Pai.”

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: “These things I command you, that you love one another. If the world hate you, know ye that it hath hated Me before you. If you had been of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember My word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you: If they have kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they know not Him that sent Me. If I had not come, and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. He that hateth Me, hateth My Father also. If I had not done among them the works that no other man hath done, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated both Me and My Father. But that the word may be fulfilled which is written in their law, They hated Me without cause.”

In illo tempore: Dixit Jesus discípulis suis: “Hæc mando vobis, ut diligátis ínvicem. Si mundus vos odit: scitóte, quia Me priórem vobis ódio hábuit. Si de mundo fuissétis: mundus quod suum erat, dilígeret: quia vero de mundo non estis, sed Ego elégi vos de mundo, proptérea odit vos mundus. Mementóte sermónis Mei, quem Ego dixit vobis: Non est servus major dómino suo. Si Me persecúti sunt, et vos persequéntur: si sermónem Meum servavérunt, et vestrum servábunt. Sed hæc ómnia fácient vobis propter nomen Meum: quia nésciunt eum, qui misit Me. Si non veníssem, et locútus fuíssem eis, peccátum non habérent: nunc autem excusatiónem non habent de peccáto suo.
