SANTÍSSIMO NOME DE MARIA

Festa de 3ª Classe- Missa Própria

Como era de costume entre os judeus, oito dias após a Santíssima Virgem nascer, os seus pais deram-lhe, inspirados por Deus, o nome de Maria. A liturgia, que celebra o Santíssimo nome de Jesus pouco dias após o Santo Natal, instituiu esta festa do Santíssimo Nome de Maria dentro da oitava da Natividade. A Espanha, por aprovação do pontífice, concedida em 1513, foi a primeira a celebrar a festa. Inocêncio XI, em 1683, estendeu-a a Igreja Universal, em ação de graças pela vitória alcançada por João Sobiesk, rei da polônia, sobre os turcos que tinham cercado Viena e ameaçavam o ocidente. O nome de Maria, que é hebreu, que dizer em português, senhora soberana. E a Senhora é realmente Soberana, em virtude da soberania que lhe foi concedida pelo filho, Rei e Soberano do Universo. Chamemos a Maria de Nossa Senhora, pelo título que chamamos a Jesus Nosso Senhor. Pronunciar o seu nome é afirmar o seu domínio, implorar o seu auxílio e colocarmo-nos debaixo da sua proteção maternal.

Leitura (Sb 24, 23-31)

Leitura do Livro de Sabedoria.

Cresci como a vinha de frutos de agradável odor, e minhas flores são frutos de glória e abundância. Sou a mãe do puro amor, do temor (de Deus), da ciência e da santa esperança, em mim se acha toda a graça do caminho e da verdade, em mim toda a esperança da vida e da virtude. Vinde a mim todos os que me desejais com ardor, e enchei-vos de meus frutos; pois meu espírito é mais doce do que o mel, e minha posse mais suave que o favo de mel. A memória de meu nome durará por toda a série dos séculos. Aqueles que me comem terão ainda fome, e aqueles que me bebem terão ainda sede. Aquele que me ouve não será humilhado, e os que agem por mim não pecarão. Aqueles que me tornam conhecida terão a vida eterna.

Evangelho (Lc 1, 26-38)

Naquele tempo: No sexto mês, o anjo Gabriel foi enviado por Deus a uma cidade da Galiléia, chamada Nazaré, a uma virgem desposada com um homem que se chamava José, da casa de Davi e o nome da virgem era Maria. Entrando, o anjo disse-lhe: Ave, cheia de graça, o Senhor é contigo. Perturbou-se ela com estas palavras e pôs-se a pensar no que significaria semelhante saudação. O anjo disse-lhe: Não temas, Maria, pois encontraste graça diante de Deus. Eis que conceberás e darás à luz um filho, e lhe porás o nome de Jesus. Ele será grande e chamar-se-á Filho do Altíssimo, e o Senhor Deus lhe dará o trono de seu pai Davi; e reinará eternamente na casa de Jacó, e o seu reino não terá fim. Maria perguntou ao anjo: Como se fará isso, pois não conheço homem? Respondeu-lhe o anjo: O Espírito Santo descerá sobre ti, e a força do Altíssimo te envolverá com a sua sombra. Por isso o ente santo que nascer de ti será chamado Filho de Deus. Também Isabel, tua parenta, até ela concebeu um filho na sua velhice; e já está no sexto mês aquela que é tida por estéril, porque a Deus nenhuma coisa é impossível. Então disse Maria: Eis aqui a serva do Senhor. Faça-se em mim segundo a tua palavra. E o anjo afastou-se dela.

Lesson (Wisdom 24: 23-31)

Lesson from the Book of Wisdom.

As the vine I have brought forth a pleasant odor, and my flowers are the fruit of honor and riches. I am the mother of fair love, and of fear, and of knowledge, and of holy hope. In me is all grace of the way and of the truth, in me is all hope of life and of virtue. Come over to me, all ye that desire me, and be filled with my fruits; for my spirit is sweet above honey, and my inheritance above honey and the honeycomb. My memory is unto everlasting generations. They that eat me, shall yet hunger; and they that drink me, shall yet thirst. He that harkeneth to me shall not be confounded, and they that work by me shall not sin. They that explain me shall have life everlasting.

Gospel (Luke 1: 26-38)

At that time, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David: and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. Who having heard, was troubled at his saying and thought with herself what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God. Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb and shalt bring forth a son and thou shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father: and he shall reign in the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end. And Mary said to the angel: How shall this be done, because I know not man? And the angel answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee. And therefore also the Holy which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And behold thy cousin Elizabeth, she also hath conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her that is called barren; because no word shall be impossible with God. And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to thy word.
