Lucam 12:35-40
In illo témpore: Dixit Iesus discípulis suis: Sint lumbi vestri præcíncti, et lucernæ ardéntes in mánibus vestris, et vos símiles homínibus exspectántibus dóminum suum, quando revertátur a núptiis: ut, cum vénerit et pulsáverit, conféstim apériant ei. Beáti servi illi, quos, cum vénerit dóminus, invénerit vigilántes: amen, dico vobis, quod præcínget se, et fáciet illos discúmbere, et tránsiens ministrábit illis. Naquele tempo: disse Jesus aos seus discípulos: Estejam cingidos os vossos rins e acesas as vossas lâmpadas. Sede semelhantes a homens que esperam o seu senhor, ao voltar de uma festa, para que, quando vier e bater à porta, logo lha abram. Bem-aventurados os servos a quem o senhor achar vigiando, quando vier! Em verdade vos digo: cingir-se-á, fá-los-á sentar à mesa e servi-los-á. Se vier na segunda ou se vier na terceira vigília e os achar vigilantes, felizes daqueles servos! Sabei, porém, isto: se o senhor soubesse a que hora viria o ladrão, vigiaria sem dúvida e não deixaria forçar a sua casa. Estai, pois, preparados, porque, à hora em que não pensais, virá o Filho do Homem.

Respóndens Simon Petrus, dixit: Tu es Christus, Fílius Dei vivi. Responderam: Uns dizem que é João Batista; outros, Elias; outros, Jeremias ou um dos profetas. Disse-lhes Jesus: E vós quem dizeis que eu sou? Jesus então lhe disse: Feliz és, Simão, filho de Jonas, porque não foi a carne nem o sangue que te revelou isto, mas meu Pai que está nos céus. E eu te declaro: tu és Pedro, e sobre esta pedra edificarei a minha Igreja; as portas do inferno não prevalecerão contra ela. Eu te darei as chaves do Reino dos céus: tudo o que ligares na terra será ligado nos céus, e tudo o que desligares na terra será desligado nos céus.

But they said, Some say, John the Baptist; and others, Elias; and others, Jeremia, or one of the prophets. He said to them, But who do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Then Jesus answered and said, Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father in heaven. And I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Sim, Pai, eu te bendigo, porque assim foi do teu agrado. Todas as coisas me foram dadas por meu Pai; ninguém conhece o Filho, senão o Pai, e ninguém conhece o Pai, senão o Filho e aquele a quem o Filho quiser revelá-lo. Vinde a mim, vós todos que estais aflitos sob o fardo, e eu vos aliviarei. Yes, Father, for such was Your good pleasure. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and him to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden light.

In illo témpore: Dixit Iesus discípulis suis: Vos estis sal terræ. Quod si sal evanúerit, in quo saliétur? Ad níhilum valet ultra, nisi ut mittátur foras, et conculcétur ab homínibus. Vos estis lux mundi. Non potest cívitas abscóndi supra montem pósita. Neque accéndunt lucérnam, et ponunt eam sub módio, sed super candelábrum, ut lúceat ómnibus qui in domo sunt. Sic lúceat lux vestra coram homínibus, ut vídeant ópera vestra bona, et gloríficent Patrem vestrum, qui in coelis est. Nolíte putáre, quóniam veni sólvere legem aut prophétas: non veni sólvere, sed adimplére. Amen, quippe dico vobis, donec tránseat coelum et terra, iota unum aut unus apex non præteríbit a lege, donec ómnia fiant. Naquele tempo: disse Jesus aos seus discípulos: Vós sois o sal da terra. Se o sal perde o sabor, com que lhe será restituído o sabor? Para nada mais serve senão para ser lançado fora e calcado pelos homens. Vós sois a luz do mundo. Não se pode esconder uma cidade situada sobre uma montanha nem se acende uma luz para colocá-la debaixo do alqueire, mas sim para colocá-la sobre o candeeiro, a fim de que brilhe a todos os que estão em casa. Assim, brilhe vossa luz diante dos homens, para que vejam as vossas boas obras e glorifiquem vosso Pai que está nos céus. Não julgueis que vim abolir a lei ou os profetas. Não vim para os abolir, mas sim para levá-los à perfeição. Pois em verdade vos digo: passará o céu e a terra, antes que desapareça um jota, um traço da lei. Aquele que violar um destes mandamentos, por menor que seja, e ensinar assim aos homens, será declarado o menor no Reino dos céus. Mas aquele que os guardar e os ensinar será declarado grande no Reino dos céus.

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its strength, what shall it be salted with? It is no longer of any use but to be thrown out and trodden underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Neither do men light a lamp and put it under the measure, but upon the lampstand, so as to give light to all in the house. Even so let your light shine before men, in order that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Do not think that I have come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For amen I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall be lost from the Law till all things have been accomplished. Therefore whoever does away with one of these least commandments, and so teaches men, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever carries them out and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Existimántes autem illum esse in comitátu, venérunt iter diéi, et requirébant eum inter cognátos et notos. Et non inveniéntes, regréssi sunt in Ierúsalem, requiréntes eum. Et factum est, post tríduum invenérunt illum in templo sedéntem in médio doctórum, audiéntem illos et interrogántem eos. Stupébant autem omnes, qui eum audiébant, super prudéntia et respónsis eius. Et vidéntes admiráti sunt. Et dixit Mater eius ad illum: Fili, quid fecísti nobis sic? Ecce, pater tuus et ego doléntes quærebámus te. Et ait ad illos: Quid est, quod me quærebátis? Nesciebátis, quia in his, quæ Patris mei sunt, opórtet me esse? Et ipsi non intellexérunt verbum, quod locútus est ad eos. Et descéndit cum eis, et venit Názareth: et erat súbditus illis. Tendo ele atingido doze anos, subiram a Jerusalém, segundo o costume da festa. Acabados os dias da festa, quando voltavam, ficou o menino Jesus em Jerusalém, sem que os seus pais o percebessem. Pensando que ele estivesse com os seus companheiros de comitiva, andaram caminho de um dia e o buscaram entre os parentes e conhecidos. Mas não o encontrando, voltaram a Jerusalém, à procura dele. Três dias depois o acharam no templo, sentado no meio dos doutores, ouvindo-os e interrogando-os. Todos os que o ouviam estavam maravilhados da sabedoria de suas respostas. Quando eles o viram, ficaram admirados. E sua mãe disse-lhe: Meu filho, que nos fizeste?! Eis que teu pai e eu andávamos à tua procura, cheios de aflição. Respondeu-lhes ele: Por que me procuráveis? Não Sabíeis que devo ocupar-me das coisas de meu Pai? Eles, porém, não compreenderam o que ele lhes dissera. Em seguida, desceu com eles a Nazaré e lhes era submisso. Sua mãe guardava todas estas coisas no seu coração. E Jesus crescia em estatura, em sabedoria e graça, diante de Deus e dos homens.

Luke 2:42-52
When Jesus was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. And after they had fulfilled the days, when they were returning, the Boy Jesus remained in Jerusalem, and His parents did not know it. But thinking that He was in the caravan, they had come a day’s journey before it occurred to them to look for Him among their relatives and acquaintances. And not finding Him, they returned to Jerusalem in search of Him. And it came to pass after three days, that they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who were listening to Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers. And when they saw Him, they were astonished. And His Mother said to Him, Son, why have You done so to us? Behold, in sorrow Your father and I have been seeking You. And He said to them, How is it that you sought Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business? And they did not understand the word that He spoke to them. And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them; and His Mother kept all these things carefully in her heart. And Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and grace before God and men.
