Naquele tempo: Jesus tomou consigo Pedro, Tiago e João, seu irmão, e conduziu-os à parte a uma alta montanha. Lá se transfigurou na presença deles: seu rosto brilhou como o sol, suas vestes tornaram-se resplandecentes de brancura. E eis que apareceram Moisés e Elias conversando com ele. Pedro tomou então a palavra e disse-lhe: Senhor, é bom estarmos aqui. Se queres, farei aqui três tendas: uma para ti, uma para Moisés e outra para Elias. Falava ele ainda, quando veio uma nuvem luminosa e os envolveu. E daquela nuvem fez-se ouvir uma voz que dizia: Eis o meu Filho muito amado, em quem pus toda minha afeição; ouvi-o. Ouvindo esta voz, os discípulos caíram com a face por terra e tiveram medo. Mas Jesus aproximou-se deles e tocou-os, dizendo: Levantai-vos e não temais. Eles levantaram os olhos e não viram mais ninguém, senão unicamente Jesus. E, quando desciam, Jesus lhes fez esta proibição: Não conteis a ninguém o que vistes, até que o Filho do Homem ressuscite dos mortos.

Then Peter addressed Jesus, saying, Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You will, let us set up three tents here, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elias. As he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; hear Him. And on hearing it the disciples fell on their faces and were exceedingly afraid. And Jesus came near and touched them, and said to them, Arise, and do not be afraid. But lifting up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus cautioned them, saying, Tell the vision to no one, till the Son of Man has risen from the dead.

Naquele tempo: houve uma festa dos judeus, e Jesus subiu a Jerusalém. Há em Jerusalém, junto à porta das Ovelhas, um tanque, chamado em hebraico Betesda, que tem cinco pórticos. Nestes pórticos jazia um grande número de enfermos, de cegos, de coxos e de paralíticos, que esperavam o movimento da água. [Pois de tempos em tempos um anjo do Senhor descia ao tanque e a água se punha em movimento. E o primeiro que entrasse no tanque, depois da agitação da água, ficava curado de qualquer doença que tivesse.] Estava ali um homem enfermo havia trinta e oito anos. Vendo-o deitado e sabendo que já havia muito tempo que estava enfermo, perguntou-lhe Jesus: Queres ficar curado? O enfermo respondeu-lhe: Senhor, não tenho ninguém que me ponha no tanque, quando a água é agitada; enquanto vou, já outro desceu antes de mim. Ordenou-lhe Jesus: Levanta-te, toma o teu leito e anda. No mesmo instante, aquele homem ficou curado, tomou o seu leito e foi andando. Ora, aquele dia era sábado. E os judeus diziam ao homem curado: E sábado, não te é permitido carregar o teu leito. Respondeu-lhes ele: Aquele que me curou disse: Toma o teu leito e anda. Perguntaram-lhe eles: Quem é o homem que te disse: Toma o teu leito e anda? O que havia sido curado, porém, não sabia quem era, porque Jesus se havia retirado da multidão que estava naquele lugar. Mais tarde, Jesus o achou no templo e lhe disse: Eis que ficaste são; já não peques, para não te acontecer coisa pior. Aquele homem foi então contar aos judeus que fora Jesus quem o havia curado.

At that time, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is at Jerusalem, by the Sheepgate, a pool called in Hebrew Bethsaida, having five porticoes. In these were lying a great multitude of the sick, blind, lame, and those with shriveled limbs, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel of the Lord used to come down at certain times into the pool, and the water was troubled. And the first to go down into the pool after the troubling of the water was cured of whatever infirmity he had. Now a certain man was there who had been thirty-eight years under his infirmity. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been in this state a long time, He said to him, Do you want to get well? The sick man answered Him, Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred; for while I am coming, another steps down before me. Jesus said to him, Rise, take up your pallet and walk. And at once the man was cured. And he took up his pallet and began to walk. Now that day was a Sabbath. The Jews therefore said to him who had been healed, It is the Sabbath; you are not allowed to take up your pallet. He answered them, He who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your pallet and walk.’ They asked him then, Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your pallet and walk’? But the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had quietly gone away, since there was a crowd in the place. Afterwards Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, you are cured. Sin no more, lest something worse befall you. The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus Who had healed him.

Et accedéntes discípuli eius rogábant eum, dicéntes: Dimítte eam; quia clamat post nos. Ipse autem respóndens, ait: Non sum missus nisi ad oves, quæ periérunt domus Israël. At illa venit, et adorávit eum, dicens: Dómine, ádiuva me. Qui respóndens, ait: Non est bonum sumere panem filiórum, et míttere cánibus. Naquele tempo: Jesus partiu dali e retirou-se para os arredores de Tiro e Sidônia. E eis que uma cananéia, originária daquela terra, gritava: Senhor, filho de Davi, tem piedade de mim! Minha filha está cruelmente atormentada por um demônio. Jesus não lhe respondeu palavra alguma. Seus discípulos vieram a ele e lhe disseram com insistência: Despede-a, ela nos persegue com seus gritos. Jesus respondeu-lhes: Não fui enviado senão às ovelhas perdidas da casa de Israel. Mas aquela mulher veio prostrar-se diante dele, dizendo: Senhor, ajuda-me! Jesus respondeu-lhe: Não convém jogar aos cachorrinhos o pão dos filhos. Certamente, Senhor, replicou-lhe ela; mas os cachorrinhos ao menos comem as migalhas que caem da mesa de seus donos… Disse-lhe, então, Jesus: Ó mulher, grande é tua fé! Seja-te feito como desejas. E na mesma hora sua filha ficou curada.

And behold, a Canaanite woman came out of that territory and cried out to Him, saying, Have pity on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is sorely beset by a devil. He answered her not a word. And His disciples came up and besought Him, saying, Send her away, for she is crying after us. But He answered and said, I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. But she came and worshipped Him, saying, Lord, help me! He said in answer, It is not fair to take the children’s bread and to cast it to the dogs. But she said, Yes, Lord; for even the dogs eat of the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table. Then Jesus answered and said to her, O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done to you as you will. And her daughter was healed from that moment.

Naquele tempo: Então alguns escribas e fariseus tomaram a palavra: Mestre, quiséramos ver-te fazer um milagre. Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Esta geração adúltera e perversa pede um sinal, mas não lhe será dado outro sinal do que aquele do profeta Jonas: do mesmo modo que Jonas esteve três dias e três noites no ventre do peixe, assim o Filho do Homem ficará três dias e três noites no seio da terra. No dia do juízo, os ninivitas se levantarão com esta raça e a condenarão, porque fizeram penitência à voz de Jonas. Ora, aqui está quem é mais do que Jonas. No dia do juízo, a rainha do Sul se levantará com esta raça e a condenará, porque veio das extremidades da terra para ouvir a sabedoria de Salomão. Ora, aqui está quem é mais do que Salomão. Quando o espírito impuro sai de um homem, ei-lo errante por lugares áridos à procura de um repouso que não acha. Diz ele, então: Voltarei para a casa donde saí. E, voltando, encontra-a vazia, limpa e enfeitada. Vai, então, buscar sete outros espíritos piores que ele, e entram nessa casa e se estabelecem aí; e o último estado daquele homem torna-se pior que o primeiro. Tal será a sorte desta geração perversa. Jesus falava ainda à multidão, quando veio sua mãe e seus irmãos e esperavam do lado de fora a ocasião de lhe falar. Disse-lhe alguém: Tua mãe e teus irmãos estão aí fora, e querem falar-te. Jesus respondeu-lhe: Quem é minha mãe e quem são meus irmãos? E, apontando com a mão para os seus discípulos, acrescentou: Eis aqui minha mãe e meus irmãos. Todo aquele que faz a vontade de meu Pai que está nos céus, esse é meu irmão, minha irmã e minha mãe.

At that time, certain of the Scribes and Pharisees answered Him, saying, Master, we would see a sign from You. But He answered and said to them, An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, and no sign shall be given it but the sign of Jonah the prophet. For even as Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Ninive will rise up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, a greater than Jonah is here. The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, a greater than Solomon is here. But when the unclean spirit has gone out of a man, he roams through dry places in search of rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house which I left’; and when he has come to it, he finds the place unoccupied, swept and decorated. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more evil than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. So shall it be with this evil generation also. While He was still speaking to the crowds, His mother and His brethren were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him. And someone said to Him, Behold, Your mother and Your brethren are standing outside, seeking You. But He answered and said to him who told Him, Who is My mother and who are My brethren? And stretching forth His hand toward His disciples, He said, Behold My mother and My brethren! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.

Todas as coisas me foram dadas por meu Pai; ninguém conhece o Filho, senão o Pai, e ninguém conhece o Pai, senão o Filho e aquele a quem o Filho quiser revelá-lo. Vinde a mim, vós todos que estais aflitos sob o fardo, e eu vos aliviarei. Yes, Father, for such was Your good pleasure. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and him to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden light.

Naquele tempo: disse Jesus aos seus discípulos: Quando o Filho do Homem voltar na sua glória e todos os anjos com ele, sentar-se-á no seu trono glorioso. Todas as nações se reunirão diante dele e ele separará uns dos outros, como o pastor separa as ovelhas dos cabritos. Colocará as ovelhas à sua direita e os cabritos à sua esquerda. Então o Rei dirá aos que estão à direita: – Vinde, benditos de meu Pai, tomai posse do Reino que vos está preparado desde a criação do mundo, porque tive fome e me destes de comer; tive sede e me destes de beber; era peregrino e me acolhestes; nu e me vestistes; enfermo e me visitastes; estava na prisão e viestes a mim. Perguntar-lhe-ão os justos: – Senhor, quando foi que te vimos com fome e te demos de comer, com sede e te demos de beber? Quando foi que te vimos peregrino e te acolhemos, nu e te vestimos? Quando foi que te vimos enfermo ou na prisão e te fomos visitar? Responderá o Rei: – Em verdade eu vos declaro: todas as vezes que fizestes isto a um destes meus irmãos mais pequeninos, foi a mim mesmo que o fizestes. Voltar-se-á em seguida para os da sua esquerda e lhes dirá: – Retirai-vos de mim, malditos! Ide para o fogo eterno destinado ao demônio e aos seus anjos. Porque tive fome e não me destes de comer; tive sede e não me destes de beber; era peregrino e não me acolhestes; nu e não me vestistes; enfermo e na prisão e não me visitastes. Também estes lhe perguntarão: – Senhor, quando foi que te vimos com fome, com sede, peregrino, nu, enfermo, ou na prisão e não te socorremos? E ele responderá: – Em verdade eu vos declaro: todas as vezes que deixastes de fazer isso a um destes pequeninos, foi a mim que o deixastes de fazer. E estes irão para o castigo eterno, e os justos, para a vida eterna.

At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: When the Son of Man shall come in His majesty, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory; and before Him will be gathered all the nations, and He will separate them one from another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the king will say to those on his right hand, ‘Come, blessed of My Father, take possession of the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave Me to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me to drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; naked and you covered Me; sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Then the just will answer Him, saying; ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You; or thirsty, and give you to drink? And when did we see You a stranger, and take You in; or naked, and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And, answering, the king will say to them, ‘Amen I say to you, as long as you did it for one of these, the least of My brethren, you did it for Me.’ Then He will say to those on His left hand, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry, and you did not give Me to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ Then they also will and say, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Amen I say to you, as long as you did not do it for one of these least ones, you did not do it for Me.’ And these will go into everlasting, punishment, but the just into everlasting life.

Et accédens tentátor, dixit ei: Si Fílius Dei es, dic, ut lápides isti panes fiant. Qui respóndens, dixit: Scriptum est: Non in solo pane vivit homo, sed in omni verbo, quod procédit de ore Dei. Tunc assúmpsit eum diábolus in sanctam civitátem, et státuit eum super pinnáculum templi, et dixit ei: Si Fílius Dei es, mitte te deórsum. Scriptum est enim: Quia Angelis suis mandávit de te, et in mánibus tollent te, ne forte offéndas ad lápidem pedem tuum. Ait illi Iesus: Rursum scriptum est: Non tentábis Dóminum, Deum tuum. Iterum assúmpsit eum diábolus in montem excélsum valde: et ostendit ei ómnia regna mundi et glóriam eórum, et dixit ei: Hæc ómnia tibi dabo, si cadens adoráveris me. Tunc dicit ei Iesus: Vade, Sátana; scriptum est enim: Dóminum, Deum tuum, adorábis, et illi soli sérvies. Tunc relíquit eum diábolus: et ecce, Angeli accessérunt et ministrábant ei.

Naquele tempo: Jesus foi conduzido pelo Espírito ao deserto para ser tentado pelo demônio. Jejuou quarenta dias e quarenta noites. Depois, teve fome. O tentador aproximou-se dele e lhe disse: Se és Filho de Deus, ordena que estas pedras se tornem pães. Jesus respondeu: Está escrito: Não só de pão vive o homem, mas de toda palavra que procede da boca de Deus (Dt 8,3). O demônio transportou-o à Cidade Santa, colocou-o no ponto mais alto do templo e disse-lhe: Se és Filho de Deus, lança-te abaixo, pois está escrito: Ele deu a seus anjos ordens a teu respeito; proteger-te-ão com as mãos, com cuidado, para não machucares o teu pé em alguma pedra (Sl 90,11s). Disse-lhe Jesus: Também está escrito: Não tentarás o Senhor teu Deus (Dt 6,16). O demônio transportou-o uma vez mais, a um monte muito alto, e lhe mostrou todos os reinos do mundo e a sua glória, e disse-lhe: Dar-te-ei tudo isto se, prostrando-te diante de mim, me adorares. Respondeu-lhe Jesus: Para trás, Satanás, pois está escrito: Adorarás o Senhor teu Deus, e só a ele servirás (Dt 6,13). Em seguida, o demônio o deixou, e os anjos aproximaram-se dele para servi-lo.

Matthew 4:1-11
At that time, Jesus was led into the desert by the Spirit, to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him, If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread. But He answered and said, It is written, ‘Not by bread alone does man live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.’ Then the devil took Him into the holy city and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, ‘He has given His angels charge concerning You; and upon their hands they shall bear You up, lest You dash Your foot against a stone.’ Jesus said to him, It is written further, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them. And he said to Him, All these things will I give You, if You will fall down and worship me. Then Jesus said to him, Begone, Satan, for it is written, ‘The Lord your God shall you worship and Him only shall you serve.’ Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.
