Ioánnem 11:47-54
In illo témpore: Collegérunt pontífices et pharisaei concílium advérsus Iesum, et dicébant: Quid fácimus, quia hic homo multa signa facit? Si dimíttimus eum sic, omnes credent in eum: et vénient Románi, et tollent nostrum locum et gentem. Unus autem ex ipsis, Cáiphas nómine, cum esset póntifex anni illíus, dixit eis: Vos nescítis quidquam, nec cogitátis, quia expédit vobis, ut unus moriátur homo pro pópulo, et non tota gens péreat. Hoc autem a semetípso non dixit: sed cum esset póntifex anni illíus, prophetávit, quod Iesus moritúrus erat pro gente, et non tantum pro gente, sed ut fílios Dei, qui erant dispérsi, congregáret in unum. Ab illo ergo die cogitavérunt, ut interfícerent eum. Iesus ergo iam non in palam ambulábat apud Iudaeos: sed ábiit in regiónem iuxta desértum, in civitátem, quæ dícitur Ephrem, et ibi morabátur cum discípulis suis.

João 11:47-54
Naquele tempo: Os pontífices e os fariseus convocaram o conselho contra Jesus e disseram: Que faremos? Esse homem multiplica os milagres. Se o deixarmos proceder assim, todos crerão nele, e os romanos virão e arruinarão a nossa cidade e toda a nação. Um deles, chamado Caifás, que era o sumo sacerdote daquele ano, disse-lhes: Vós não entendeis nada! Nem considerais que vos convém que morra um só homem pelo povo, e que não pereça toda a nação. E ele não disse isso por si mesmo, mas, como era o sumo sacerdote daquele ano, profetizava que Jesus havia de morrer pela nação, e não somente pela nação, mas também para que fossem reconduzidos à unidade os filhos de Deus dispersos. E desde aquele momento resolveram tirar-lhe a vida. Em conseqüência disso, Jesus já não andava em público entre os judeus. Retirou-se para uma região vizinha do deserto, a uma cidade chamada Efraim, e ali se detinha com seus discípulos.

John 11:47-54
At that time, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together a council against Jesus, and said, What are we doing? for this man is working many signs. If we let Him alone as He is, all will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation. But one of them, Caiphas, being high priest that year, said to them, You know nothing at all; nor do you reflect that it is expedient for us that one man die for the people, instead of the whole nation perishing. This, however, he said not of himself; but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was to die for the nation; and not only for the nation, but that He might gather into one the children of God who were scattered abroad. So from that day forth their plan was to put Him to death. Jesus therefore no longer went about openly among the Jews, but withdrew to the district near the desert, to a town called Ephrem; and there He stayed with His disciples.
